Okta Single Sign on setup for SparrowDesk

Single Sign-On (SSO) lets your team log in to SparrowDesk using your company’s existing login system, such as Okta. If you’re already logged in to Okta, you can access SparrowDesk without entering another username or password.

Prerequisites

• SSO is available only on the Enterprise plan
• Make sure your SparrowDesk account is on the Enterprise plan before setting this up

Supported features

The Okta–SparrowDesk SSO integration supports:

• SP-initiated SSO – Login is started from SparrowDesk
• IdP-initiated SSO – Login is started from Okta

Configuration steps

Single Sign-On lets you log in to SparrowDesk in just a single click if you’re already logged in to Okta. This helps you avoid remembering multiple login credentials.

Here’s how you can enable SSO:

1. Go to Settings and select Single Sign-On.

From your Okta account, you’ll need the following:

• Login URL
• Certificate

2. After filling in the fields, click on Update.
3. Now, once you try to log in to SparrowDesk using SSO, a request URL will be sent to your Okta account. If you’re already logged in to Okta, a message will be sent to SparrowDesk confirming that you’re a verified user, and you’ll be logged in.

Note: The screen shown below is an example of SP-initiated SSO, where login starts from SparrowDesk. If login is started from Okta (IdP-initiated SSO), users will see their Okta dashboard with a list of apps and can open SparrowDesk from there.

You will see a login page with “Continue with SSO”, which lets you log in to SparrowDesk without remembering multiple login details.

What’s next

• Just-In-Time provisioning
  Users will be created automatically in SparrowDesk the first time they log in using SSO. This removes the need to manually add users in advance.
• SP-initiated SLO (Single Logout)
  Users will be logged out from SparrowDesk and the identity provider together when they sign out.
